He called the shooting an “absolute tragedy” and said deputies do not know what was going through the mind of the gunman at the time of the shooting. All students will be transported at Brookwood Church at 580 Brookwood Point Place, Simpsonville, SC 29681, where parents will be reunited with their student. One student has been transported to the hospital, and their condition is unknown at this time. A 12-year-old child died in a shooting at Tanglewood Middle School in. "Following the shooting we learned the shooter ran from the school, and a search was initiated. "We soon learned that the gunfire was from a 12-year-old student who shot another 12-year-old student inside the 700 wing of the school," a Greenville County Sheriff's Office's statement said. The school's resource officer called for backup Thursday after hearing shots fired, according to the Sheriff's Office. The identities of the victim and the suspect had not been disclosed. Police had not determined a motive for the shooting or how the shooter was able to get possession of a firearm. The suspect was taken into custody after being apprehended near the school.Īuthorities say the suspect has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a firearm on school property and unlawful possession of a weapon by a person under the age of 18.
